Posterous theme by Cory Watilo

HEALTH: I just finished my 6th week appointment with neurosurgeon. Everything is healing and I’m walking without assistance. I also no longer need my vest brace while sitting. Walking is getting easier and I’m up to about a mile a day. I could not read for deep meaning for about 2 weeks after surgery. Now, however, the life of the mind is good.

SABBATICAL: Most of my days are spent around this schedule. I awaken and after coffee I read and write for 4 to 6 hours. Then it is time to catch up on streaming presentations. Mid afternoon I have lunch and then devote about 2 hours to learning new software of else I build something having to do with me 2012 classes.

I miss my friends and look forward to getting out more.  I have three trips planned – Texas, Florida, and back again to the UK.

Today I marked the 1-month anniversary of being released from the hospital. I’m walking without walker or cane and enjoy walking about in the Kroger or Sams stores. The shopping cart is wonderful walker. My next appointment with my surgeon is next Wednesday, the 12th. I hope the fusion is going well.

Regarding my sabbatical. I’ve been able to continue the work started this summer in London and hold meetings online with AUCEi founders from around the world. I have been able to help maintain a website for them and have developed considerable expertise using applications that will be usable, especially as I prepare to teach a new course in the fall of 2012 when return to WSU.

Google + and Google docs have been a real help to many of the AUCEi group. I believe that they represent a pivot point in communications. Whilt I continue to use Facebook I rely more on Google tools.

After several weeks of recovery I am beginning to move about. I can stand without pain but standing up is still a slight problem. Walking behind a walker or shopping cart is great. So, the health issues are diminishing.

Related to my sabbatical, I’ve been able to participate in scores of meetings with people all over the planet.

Thank you for all your notes, cards, and other contacts.
